Amitabha Buddha, also known as Amitayus or Amituofo, is a prominent figure in Mahayana Buddhism. Amitabha is regarded as a celestial Buddha who presides over the Western Pure Land, a paradise-like realm where beings can achieve enlightenment and liberation from the cycle of rebirth. According to Buddhist teachings, Amitabha Buddha made a vow to create a Pure Land where beings could easily attain enlightenment by reciting his name and cultivating merit. He is often depicted with a gentle and compassionate expression, and his name means "Infinite Light" or "Boundless Radiance." One of the most popular practices in Pure Land Buddhism is called nianfo, which involves reciting the name of Amitabha Buddha with devotion and sincerity. It is believed that through this practice, one can accumulate positive karma and eventually be reborn in the Pure Land. In some traditions, Amitabha Buddha is also associated with long life and healing. He is often depicted holding a vase of nectar, which symbolizes the elixir of immortality and the power to heal physical and spiritual ailments.
