Rig Sum Gonpo, also known as the Three Divine Brothers, is a concept found in Tibetan Buddhism that represents the inseparability of three important figures: Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig), Manjushri, and Vajrapani with Shakyamuni Bhumi Buddha. Each of these figures embodies different aspects of wisdom, compassion, and power. In this thangka, Shakyamuni Buddha is associated with 3 divine Buddhas with other 3 gurus. They play significant roles in Buddhist practice and are often depicted together.

Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig): Avalokiteshvara is the Bodhisattva of Compassion. He is known for his boundless compassion and his vow to alleviate the suffering of all sentient beings. Avalokiteshvara is often depicted with multiple arms and sometimes with a thousand eyes, symbolizing his ability to see and help those in need. His compassion is seen as an essential quality on the path to enlightenment.

Manjushri: Manjushri is the Bodhisattva of Wisdom. He represents the transcendental wisdom that cuts through ignorance and delusion. Manjushri is often depicted wielding a sword, which symbolizes his ability to cut through the roots of ignorance. He is also depicted holding a book or a scroll, representing the wisdom of Buddhist teachings.

Vajrapani: Vajrapani is the Bodhisattva of Power or Spiritual Energy. He embodies the strength and energy necessary to overcome obstacles on the spiritual path. Vajrapani is often depicted holding a vajra (thunderbolt) or a vajra scepter, representing his ability to transform obstacles into opportunities for spiritual growth.

While Shakyamuni Buddha is not directly associated with Rig Sum Gonpo, his teachings, and principles align with the qualities represented by the Three Divine Brothers. Shakyamuni Buddha's enlightenment and teachings emphasize the importance of compassion, wisdom, and the transformation of obstacles on the path to liberation. In Tibetan Buddhist iconography and thangka paintings, it is common to see depictions of Rig Sum Gonpo alongside representations of Shakyamuni Buddha. This is done to highlight the interconnectedness of these figures and the integration of wisdom, compassion, and power in the pursuit of spiritual awakening.
