Maitreya Buddha, also known as the Future Buddha or the Buddha of Loving-Kindness, is a figure in Buddhist tradition who is believed to be the next Buddha to appear in this world. In Buddhist teachings, it is believed that there have been many Buddhas in the past, including Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha, and there will be many more to come. Maitreya Buddha is considered to be the fifth Buddha of this era. According to Buddhist scriptures, Maitreya Buddha currently resides in the Tushita heaven, where he awaits his time to descend to Earth and teach the Dharma to sentient beings. Maitreya Buddha is depicted as a bodhisattva, a being who has attained enlightenment but chooses to remain in the cycle of birth and death to help others attain liberation. He is often portrayed as a gentle and benevolent figure, with a smiling face and a round belly, symbolizing his kindness and compassion. In some Buddhist traditions, Maitreya Buddha is also associated with the practice of loving-kindness or metta. This practice involves cultivating a mindset of friendliness, goodwill, and kindness towards oneself and others, as a means of developing inner peace and compassion. Maitreya Buddha is seen as a role model for this practice, embodying the qualities of love and compassion that are central to the Buddhist path.

The mantra associated with Maitreya Buddha is "Om Maitri Maha Maitri Maitriye Svaha," which translates to "Om Loving Kindness, Great Loving Kindness, O Loving One, so be it." This mantra is a powerful tool for cultivating loving-kindness and compassion, which are central to Buddhist practice. The repetition of this mantra is believed to bring about a greater sense of peace, harmony, and well-being in the practitioner's life, as well as promote the development of loving-kindness towards all beings.
